Yin is a slow and passive, meditative style of yoga that involves holding postures for extended periods, typically ranging from 3 to 5 minutes.
Most poses in yin are floor based and use props to help support the body. The primary focus of yin yoga is on targeting the connective tissues, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia, as well as accessing deeper layers of muscles. Yin coaxes the body and mind into a calm state providing relief to the nervous system.
The practice allows you to slow down, relax, and turn inward, which helps alleviate stress and restore your energy levels. Yin yoga also improves flexibility, boosts circulation, and reduces tension.
